| RECIPE FOR SAUERBRATEN GOLDEN APPLE MEATBALLS |
Title: Sauerbraten Golden Apple Meatballs Serves: 6
Ingredients:
| 3.00 | | Golden Delicious apples | | 1.50 | lb | Ground beef | | 0.50 | c | Soft bread crumbs | | 0.25 | c | Finely chopped onions | | 1.00 | | Egg | | 1.00 | ts | Salt | | 0.25 | ts | Pepper | | 0.25 | ts | Thyme | | 1.00 | tb | Oil | | 1.00 | c | Water | | 3.00 | tb | Vinegar | | 1.00 | tb | Packed brown sugar | | 0.25 | c | Crushed gingersnap | | | Cookies | | 1.00 | | Bay leaf |
Instructions: Pare, core and grate apple to measure 1 cup.
Mix with ground beef, bread crumbs,onion,egg and seasonings.
Shape into balls about 1 1/2"" in diameter.
Brown on all sides in oil.
Drain excess fat.
Combine remaining ingredients;pour over meatballs and bring to boil.
Core and cut remaining apples into wedges.
Add to skillet.
Reduce heat,cover, simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until apples are tender.
Remove bay leaf.
Makes 6 servings.
